About the Artist
My name is Kerry, I live in Northern California with my husband and teenage son. I work in the medical field, but enjoy
painting in my spare time, I find it very relaxing! I am excited to share some of my processes and art work.
I have always been very creative, I’ve painted murals for children’s bedrooms, been a set designer for a local theatre company, illustrated a couple of children’s books and I’ve been a resident artist at a clay studio. I always enjoyed using different mediums, but over the past 2 years I’ve enjoyed painting rocks and hiding them in my community for strangers to find. I believe in “ransom acts of kindness” to spread joy and try to cheer someone’s day. No strings attached.
Rock painting can be as simple or as detailed as you want it to be. You certainly don’t need to be a professional artist in order to join in this massive movement. It’s a lot of fun!
One of the reasons why I paint rocks is because my mum passed away. I wanted to do something positive to help with the grieving process and do something to honour her memory. On the back of the rocks that I hide I write “in loving memory” and her name. I also paint rocks for the patients at the cancer center where she was treated. It’s a very positive and uplifting experience.
I have joined many rock painting groups on Facebook, and find the rock painting community to be a kind and supportive bunch of people! I definitely recommend joining a group yourself, it’s very inspiring to see the artwork that is posted and it’s very helpful to get feedback on work you create.
There are many reason to paint rocks. Here are some ideas of why you should get involved in this massive movement!
